Video Content Best Practices

If you are looking to upload videos with Voltax VMS, you'll need to adhere to the following technical requirements.

Technical Requirements

In order for videos to work in the VMS video player
Your video must:
• use one of the following formats: .avi, .dv, .mov, .mp4, .wmv, .mpg, .mpeg, .m2t, or .m4v.
• Be a maximum file size of 2 GB.
• File names should only contain alphanumeric characters (a-z, 0-9) or underscores (_) any other characters, such as quotes or punctuation will cause an error.

If you need to convert your video to meet these requirements, you can use software such as the free and open-source Handbrake to convert your video to a supported file format.

For best results in the player, your video should meet the following requirements: 
• Have an aspect ratio of 16:9.
• Have a minimum width of 640px or more.

If you're using a custom thumbnail, it must meet the following requirements: 
• Be a .jpg, .png, or .gif image.
• Be a maximum of 50MB.

For best results your thumbnail should:

• Have an aspect ratio of 16:9.
• Have a minimum width of 640px or more.
